Building up of Information Resource Base
:
The Information resource centre of the Institute fulfills the information requirements of the main office as well as its regional offices. The centre serves as a nodal agency for dissemination of
specialized information on Panchayati Raj- related studies including grassroots democracy, urban affairs, women’s empowerment, and national political and economic issues. Besides supporting Institute’s own academic and research programme, the support is extended to a wider community users and institutions working in these areas. The centre is aiming to expand its network with a view to developing a comprehensive resource base on local governance and related issues, and make it available to a wider section of users involved in strengthening the local government system. Infrastructure:
Spread over an area of 1800
sq.ft. the centre is equipped with study carrels, Internet stations, reference and consultation areas. It comprises a state-of-the art,
computerized multimedia library.

Information Base:
The Centre focuses on developing a specialised information base on all thrust areas of the Institute including local governance, decentralisation, urban and rural issues etc., and also lays emphasis on building up a good collection on social sciences and other allied disciplines. The centre also documents and maintains the primary data collected by the Institute’s research teams.

Clientele:
Some of the clientele of the centre include, UN agencies, government bodies, NGOs, national and international development institutions, and individual research scholars from national and international universities and research centres. The information resources centre also offers services to individuals working on similar topics as that of ISS on membership basis.
