Public Interest Litigations (PIL)

The Institute has filed a number of public interest litigations in various High Courts and Supreme Court of India seeking the courts intervention and relief in matters involving larger public interests. Some of the cases are related to conduct/restoration of panchayat elections in States like Bihar and Andhra Pradesh as per the Constitutional mandate; seeking justice in land acquisition; and so on. The ISS won the case relating to the restoration of Panchayats elections in Andhra Pradesh. ISS has also filed a complaint in Andhra Pradesh State Human Rights Commission seeking its intervention in the case relating to the murder of a woman elected panchayat representative, who was a Dalit, by her political opponents.
