The Documentation Centre serves as a vital resource hub for the Institute, fulfilling the information requirements of both the main office and its regional branches. Spread across an area of 1800 sq.ft., this state-of-the-art facility is equipped with study carrels, internet stations, and reference and consultation sections. It plays a pivotal role as a nodal agency for the dissemination of specialized information on key topics such as Panchayati Raj, grassroots democracy, urban affairs, women’s empowerment, and national political and economic issues.
The centre boasts a modern infrastructure designed to support an effective learning and research environment. Its features include: Study carrels for focused individual work
- Internet stations for quick access to online resources
- Dedicated reference and consultation sections to aid research
- A computerized multimedia library offering advanced capabilities
Library Collection
The library within the centre houses a modest yet comprehensive collection of nearly 25,000 books, alongside general magazines and publications primarily focused on the social sciences. This collection serves as the backbone for academic and research endeavors and is continually enriched to meet the dynamic needs of users.
Information Resource Base
The Information Resource Centre is dedicated to building a specialized database that aligns with the Institute’s thrust areas. These include:
- Local governance and decentralization
- Urban and rural development issues
- Grassroots democracy and related studies
- Women’s empowerment
- National political and economic challenges
In addition to serving the Institute’s academic and research programs, the centre extends its support to a broader community of users and institutions involved in these disciplines. Efforts are underway to expand its network, aiming to develop a comprehensive resource base on local governance and related themes. This resource base will be made accessible to a wider audience, particularly those engaged in strengthening the local government system.
